a place of peace

Construction of the Belo Monte Dam began in January 2012. If allowed to proceed, Belo Monte will divert 80% of the flow of the Xingu River, flooding an area of 516 square kilometres in the Amazon basin, most of which is standing forest. It will displace at least 20, 000 people. The water contamination is destroying their food-source, drinking water and a culture that lives in the river every day.
